2017 GISA Regionals
Your Cottage School Cougars boys’ varsity team placed third in the region I-AA GISA Cross Country Championship yesterday at St. George’s Episcopal School in Milner to advance to the state championship meeting of athletes in Athens next Saturday at Monsignor Donovan Catholic High School. Only the top four teams advance to state each year, and the I-AA region proves perennially to be the most competitive region in GISA Cross Country. While the official results are not yet available, Larry Orsini led his mates to a top five finish and All-Region plaque with a new personal record of 17:59 over the rolling convoluted wood chip trails. (This exemplary effort has garnered Larry a hallowed spot on the Top Ten Cougar All-Time List). Senior workhorse, Turner Bynum ran second for the Cougars placing among the coveted top ten, while Brett Boyles, Alex Hoeve, Shane Hendrickson, eighth grade Phenom Will Conroy followed close behind, and Nick Smith rounding out our solid seven. Unfortunately, our girls could not field a team of at least five runners; so, Gracie Bernstein, Gwen Waitley and Mary Clare soldiered bravely for individual honor and completed the 5,000 meter course in admirable fashion. Thank you for your continued support of these outstanding student-athletes as they pursue excellence.
