Cougar

If you don't make a total commitment to whatever you're doing, then you start looking to bail out the first time the boat starts leaking. It's tough enough getting that boat to shore with everybody rowing, let alone when a guy stands up and starts putting his jacket on.

TCS Philosophy

The Cottage School's athletic program is an integral part of our students' educational experience. The program strives to provide opportunities to develop a positive competitive spirit, learn self-discipline, and foster teamwork and sportsmanship.

TCS offers a wide range of sports on the Varsity, JV, and Middle School levels. The school's policy of "no cuts" for non-Varsity sports enables all students to participate in the sport(s) of their choice. Through participation in team sports, students not only learn the athletic skills necessary to play, they also learn fundamental life-skills that will remain with them throughout life.

The athletic department seeks to hire highly qualified coaches to teach these lifelong skills. TCS' coaching staff pursues a commitment to excellence and encourages the student athlete to reach his or her personal potential. While primary emphasis is given to in-season competition, exceptional teams and individuals are given every opportunity to qualify for and excel in post-season playoffs and tournaments.

The level of participation is arranged for each athlete according to his or her age, development, ability, and interest. Competition and winning are important aspects of any athletic program, but does not control the scope of the TCS sports program. We believe that every student can contribute to any team or event, no matter the level of skill. The TCS Athletic Department is continually evaluating its program to ensure that it is within the goals and philosophy of The Cottage School.
