2/6/2013: JV Cougars’ Opening Round Tournament Action

The outcome of yesterday’s game was not what we had planned. Hard work and dedication all year got us to where we wanted to be, in a position to earn the right to play for the championship. However, that was not to be the case. Each player on the team worked hard and each player contributed to any successes we may have enjoyed yesterday and for the season. Our lives are filled with wins and losses, successes and disappointments. Sometimes, however, teaching moments arise out of the most difficult of times. Yesterday provided us with one of...

1/31/2013: JV Cougars Bring Seven-Game Winning Streak Against Brandon Hall

1/31/2013: JV Cougars Bring Seven-Game Winning Streak Against Brandon Hall

Your young JV Cougars defended their lair last night against another pack of hungry cats, the Panthers from Brandon Hall. Always a tough match-up and this game did not let anyone down. From the opening tip-off you could tell what kind of game this would be. Winning the tip, Asa Branch went in for the lay-up and was fouled. The first quarter was a lesson in tough minded, swarming defense by both sides, meaning that points were extremely hard to come by. The only points of the first quarter by the Cougars was the lay-up by Asa Branch. As both...

1/23/2013: JV Continues Winning Streak

1/23/2013: JV Continues Winning Streak

OMG!!! (Outstanding, Marvelous, Great) are the words I would use to describe yesterday’s performance. A true team victory. This game meant so much more than a region win; it was a chance for the future of the JV program to shine. Our opponents, the Cumberland Academy Cyclones are a young and growing team. Their ability is growing with each game and they will soon be a force to reckon with. It was a wonderful thing to witness as each person cheered not only for their teammates, but also for their opponents. Sure the win, our seventh in a row...

1/22/2013: JV Cougars Tip Off vs. Academie of the Oaks Firebird

1/22/2013: JV Cougars Tip Off vs. Academie of the Oaks Firebird

Your young Cougars traveled to Decatur yesterday to face a hungry bunch of Firebirds from Academe of the Oaks. All teams, great or not, have a difficult time playing at their highest ability each and every game. Either because of injury, illness, suspensions or long weekends, some outside variable always seem to create a bump in the road on the way to the tournament. Yesterday was our day to face this reality. Coming off a tough game on Saturday, followed by a long weekend with no practice to prepare for the Firebirds, your dauntless Cougars...

1/11/13: JV Cougars Tangle with AASD Panthers

On Friday afternoon, your JV Cougars basketball team traveled to Clarkston, GA to face the # 1 ranked Atlanta Area School of the Deaf. The last time we faced AASD the result was a hard fought but disappointing loss. This time your young Cougars were ready for the fight. Early in the first quarter it was evident that the Cougars were in it to win it. The defense came alive and shut down the vaunted offense of AASD by holding them to only two points while Asa Branch and Josh Woods combined for four points to put the Cougars up by two at the end...

12/7/2012: JV Cougars Tip Off Versus Brandon Hall

Friday afternoon a hungry pack of Panthers from Brandon Hall invaded the Cougar Center. These defending-league champs were hungry for a victory and they knew that our young Cougars would be their next prey. From the opening tip-off, that seemed to be the case. Both teams of hungry cats pawed and scratched each other all period long. The Cougars saw many open shots go over the basket or simply rim out, but undaunted they continued to fight. At the end of the first quarter Panthers of Dunwoody 8, Cougars 0. The second quarter opened up with...

12/5/2012: JV Cougars vs. Cumberland Academy

All too often success is measured by statistics, wins and losses. This has been considered the measuring stick by fans, parents, administrations, coaches and athletic directors ever since the invention of sport. Sometimes, however, every team is faced by a situation that far exceeds these parameters. It is how that team handles that situation, to me, is the true measure of success. Last night we were blessed with one of those situations. The JV team traveled to Cumberland Academy last night for a game with the Cyclones. To say that they...
