"For me, winning isn't something that happens suddenly on the field when the whistle blows and the crowds roar. Winning is something that builds physically and mentally every day that you train and every night that you dream."

10/11 vs CEA
In our season finale, TCS defeated CEA 4-2 in varsity soccer action
Our Cougars played very well throughout the game, but the score did not indicate our dominance. Except for a handful of Colt offensive opportunities, our Cougars controlled the midfield allowing for the most scoring opportunities we had all year. The only problem with that is we were only able to score on just 4 of our 53 shot attempts. Yes, that is correct. Our TCS Cougars had 53 shots on goal. Very exciting and fun to watch, but if someone said there was an invisible shield surrounding the Colt goal, I would believe it.
Co-Captain Florian Mayrhofer had a spectacular game scoring two goals, made countless precise and accurate passes to his teammates assisting one to fellow forward, Steven Heitzman. If not for the poor shooting percentage from our Cougars, Mayrhofer would have had at least ten assists for the game.
Mayrhofer's two goals were aided by great communication and perfect passes from Tru "The Truth" Pattni.
Our final goal of the game came after CEA scored two back to back goals making the game go from a one-sided onslaught to, all of a sudden a 3-2 tight Cougar lead.
With the Colts providing some pressure for TCS, our Cougars answered with determination and a will to finish the game with a victory, allowing CEA to never get another scoring chance.Sophomore Jake Utley iced the game with a nice shot of his own (first of his Cougar career), than did a graceful summersault, knowing he just took the life out of CEA ending in our 4-2 victory.
Our Cougars finished with 5 wins and 7 losses in the AAC and missed the playoffs by one game. This is an improvement from last year, as we finished 3-9 and had no chance at the playoffs.
Our coaching staff is thankful and wish a goodbye to our seniors who showed great dedication and exemplified outstanding leadership with their positive attitude, hard work, and willingness to help others. To their last soccer game as a Cougar: Florian "The Warrior" Mayrhofer, Kay Winter, Patrick Flynn, Nick Shaver, Lauren Zabroske, Jordan Taylor, and Adam Weinberg.
Thanks to all the fans, family, staff, and alumni who came out all season. Our Cougars really appreciate your support. It is now time to turn to basketball which begins next Tuesday (10/16).

10/4 vs. Brandon Hall
TCS varsity soccer lost at the Brandon Hall Panthers 10-0 in yesterday's action
Being down 8-0 after the first half, our Cougars vowed to give a battle in the second period. Even though our Cougars were unable to score they turned up the intensity and aggression in this frame. Co-captain Florian Mayrhofer led with his passion for soccer and will to win, physically overpowered his opponents winning many balls all over the field and making great pass after great pass to another hard working teammate, Omari Anderson. Between the two of them and another senior, Nick Shaver, our Cougars had many offensive opportunities up front, but the ball just could not find the back of the net.
Speaking of determination, three more Cougars have to be mentioned for their will to sacrifice their bodies to prevent a Panther attack, to win balls, and to make good passes up to our midfielders and forwards, giving us the offensive opportunities we had. Fullbacks Anthony Isaacs and Paul Johnson hustled from side to side bumping, kicking, and slide tackling any and every Brandon Hall player in sight in order to find a way to gain possession of the ball. Senior Jordan Taylor also did the same, but his efforts came at the midfield allowing for our eleven shots on goal.
The coaching staff are proud of our Cougars for not only the efforts put out on the field, but also for the positive attitudes and encouraging words shared with their teammates throughout the game on the field of play. "We have been preaching to stop the negativity towards each other all season and in this game our Cougars proved they not only listened and said they would do it, but used action to go along with those words," Coach Richie Briggs stated.
We thank the parents, friends, and family for coming out to support us. Hope to see you in our season finale versus CEA on 10/11 at East Roswell Park.
Proud Cougar Coaches,
Richie, Meredith, and Erik
10/2 vs. Mill Spring Academy
TCS lost to Mill Springs 4-0 in yesterdays soccer match. It was just the first time all season where our TCS Cougars were shut out in conference play
After Mill Springs took an early 1-0 lead, our Cougars began a solid offensive push up front having multiple shot opportunities. Senior Nick Shaver started at forward and made some great passes to Steven Heitzman and Omari Anderson, but our Cougars were unable to convert the shots for scores leaving the half at a 1-0 Mustang lead.
In the second frame, our Cougars' effort and determination was strong, but Mill Springs seemed to want it more as a team as they pulled away scoring three goals, ultimately ending with the 4-0 victory.
Game Notes:
Co-Captain Florian Mayrhofer and Junior forward Steven Heitzman played with great intensity and the determination of generals trying to lead their troops to victory. Their efforts and leadership gave our Cougars the opportunities needed to win; but our Cougars were just unable to find the back of the net.
David Gwynn played eight minutes of intense soccer booting balls up the field to our midfielders and forwards, preventing the Mustang offensive attack.
We thank all who came to support our Cougars and hope to see you come out again at Brandon Hall this Thursday in a critical conference game with playoff implications.

9/28 vs. Kings Ridge Christian
TCS lost to Kings Ridge Christian 5-0 in today?s soccer action.
First Half:
At the half our Cougars were down 3-0, but we had some good things happen. Senior Nick Shaver, Forward Jake Utley (first time playing on offense at TCS), and Co-Captain Florian Mayrhofer played some great team soccer up front making many good passes to each other, but the shots on goal were just off the target.
At midfield, Britt Hall played valuable and hard minutes booting balls all over the field as did seniors Jordan Taylor and Lauren Zabroske.
Second Half:
In this frame, midfielders Tyler Cole and Jonathon Leibel played with great intensity preventing opportunities for Kings Ridge to win balls.
Fullbacks Kyle Washington and Jordan Dubrof also contributed trying to lighten the load goalie Scott Hendrickson had to carry with the many shot on goals from Kings Ridge.
Conference play picks back up next week in two critical playoff caliber games on 10/2 and 10/4, starting with Mill Springs Academy at 4PM on 10/2.
Family, Friends and fans thank you for supporting our Cougars.

9/25 vs The Howard School
TCS Cougars defeat the Howard School Hawks 5-1
Communication, trust, encouragement, intensity, anticipation, commitment: These words are a few of the characteristics our Cougars have been working on to improve as a team. Yesterday versus the Howard School, our Cougars not only exemplified their will to win like they always do in competition, but were able to take those words above to action and use them to dominate the Hawks of Howard.
Our fullbacks and midfielders played outstanding allowing very few shot attempts, which gave our newly named and final captain on the team, goalie Scott Hendrickson needing only six saves to aid the team to victory. Fullbacks: Trushant Pattni and Steven Heitzman led the way, while their teammates followed in line; Anthony Isaacs, Jake Utley, Paul Johnson, and Tony Reed. Midfielders: Joey Van Loan and Co-Captain Patrick Flynn led the way, while their teammates followed in line; Jordan Taylor, Nick Shaver, Tyler Cole, Lauren Zabroske, Leah Purdy, Logan Gammage, and later in the game fullback Anthony Isaacs had an opportunity to play midfield and took advantage of it by recording two assists to our strikers.
Offensively, our forwards played one of the best team soccer we have seen all season. Led by Co-Captain Florian Mayrhofer with precise passing and effective communication, our Cougars were able to push up and get great looks at the goal. Midfielder/forward Flynn made some good passes to the outsides for Mayrhofer who also was able to make some great crosses to our leading strikers Tony Reed and Steven Heitzman. Junior Reed capitalized twice, leading the team with 10 goals on the season and Junior Heitzman who started at fullback and set the tone on defense than moved up on offense to record his second ?hat trick? of the season. His third and final goal of the evening was the most impressive. On the far right side of the field, the Howard defense forced him to the right post and shifted well to the middle of the field in front of their goal. What looked like a slight chance of a goal opportunity quickly changed as Heitzman faked right, crossed over left and with his left foot nailed a rocket shot through the air to the left side of the goal post. Not a goalie in our league could have stopped that attempt.
The win gave our Cougars life and put us back into the playoff picture. Come out to support us at a non conference game at Kings Ridge on Friday.

Richie, Meredith, and Erik
9/20 vs. Brandon Hall
Cottage Cougars lost to the Brandon Hall Panthers 4-2 in Thursday's varsity soccer action
In the first half, Brandon Hall came out with more intensity, gaining more shot opportunities, thus taking a 1-0 early lead. Our Cougars battled back like they always do, and with just a few shot opportunities were able to take advantage of one with an offensive push up front. Just the fierce competitive prowess alone startled the Panther defenders which allowed a pass from Co-Captain Florian Mayrhofer and attempt to control the ball, Steven Heitzman, who then attacked the goal and the Brandon Hall defender attempted to boot the ball out of play, but instead misguided the ball directly into the Panther net, tying the game at one a piece.
In the second half, great hustle and effort were given by our Cougars, but Brandon Hall happened to be better this day. Outside of a Tony Reed goal to get within one at 3-2 late in the second frame, the Panthers controlled the ball most of the period ending in the 4-2 win.
As always our Cougars greatly appreciate the family, friends, alumni, and staff for coming out to support them. If you think our Cougars play with drive now, come out to observe their tenacity on 9/25 at Howard (4PM). With just five conference games left, our Cougars are very determined to not only win games, but also to make a deep playoff run.

9/18 vs. Hidden Lake Academy
TCS Cougars lost a nail biter, 2-1, to undefeatedHidden Lake Academy in yesterday's varsity soccer match
It was a carbon copy of the first match up between the two teams on 8/31/07 at HLA, where the Lions scored in the first two minutes of play to take a 1-0 early lead. The difference yesterday was our Cougars were able keep it close putting unfamiliar pressure on HLA throughout the game. Your Cougars had a few good looks offensively that first half, but were unable to covert keeping the 1-0 score at halftime.
2nd Half: After fifteen minutes of play in this frame, junior Steven Heitzman placed a precise ball to Co-Captain Florian Mayrhofer just on the left-center side above the midfield line, who than trapped it, settled it, and made an accurate poised left-footed shot on goal tying the game, 1-1. Mind you, Florian?s concentration and determination needed to be swift as he had two HLA defenders surrounding him and the HLA goalie came rushing out attacking his attempt.
The next 25 minutes of play was some of the most intense, competitive soccer action one could observe or participate in. As both teams fought to win balls at the midfield and both defenses worked relentlessly to protect their respective goals, the drama unfolded with just five minutes left. With both the TCS midfield and defense running on an "E" tank, the Lions of Hidden Lake were able to take advantage winning four of the next six balls in the midfield, thus producing good shot opportunities. On what looked like was going to be the game winning goal, an HLA striker got open in the box and attempted an open shot. Out of nowhere, senior left fullback Kay Winter shifted towards the middle backing up her stopper, and booted the potential game winner out of the box area. Than a minute later, HLA had another game winning shot attempt denied by Cougar stopper, Trushant Pattni, who had made countless denials throughout the game.
With your Cougars running on "E", working together but being a step late on almost every defensive shift in these final five minutes, the Lions unfortunately were able to get through our defense and scored the go ahead goal on the 77th minute of play, inevitably ending one of the best battles ever played on a soccer field by your TCS Cougars versus Hidden Lake Academy.
Game Notes:
Fullbacks, Kay Winter, Trushant Pattni, and Joey Van Loan played their best games of the season, saving many goal opportunities for HLA.
Midfielders/forwards, Omari Anderson and Co-Captain Patrick Flynn played with great intensity and leadership helping both the Cougar offense attack the HLA defense and took pressure off the Cougar defense with the determination to win balls at the midfield.
Senior fullback, Adam Weinberg came in late in the second half saving a potential go ahead HLA goal, putting himself in the right place at the right time booting the ball away from the HLA offense into the possession of his midfield teammates.
Goal Keeper Scott Hendrickson played brilliantly in goal, saving 10 shots. There were at least five shots on goals denied because Scott sacrificed his body, diving to right and left sides of the posts. His most dramatic save of the day came with just 8 minutes left in the game and a HLA striker got free on the right side of the field, inside the box just about ten feet from Hendrickson. The shot was aimed inside of the right post and Scott dove to his right saving what would have been the go ahead score for the Lions.
Thanks to the fans, family, and alumni for coming out to support us. We hope to see you in two days at East Roswell Park, where we will take on the back-to-back AAC soccer champion Brandon Hall Panthers.

9/13 vs. Gables
TCS varsity Cougar soccer team defeated Gables 8-1 in Stone Mountain last night. After a long discussion with the coaches and the referee about the unregulated field on the Gables campus and a 25-minute lightening delay, the soccer match did occur in the consistent rain, and your Cougars of TCS did prevail.
Because the field was more of the size of a basketball court, it would have been dangerous for both teams to play the game with the standard eleven versus eleven. So instead we played eight versus eight and that turned out to be safe and worked.
To the field:
Not accustomed to playing on such a small area for a soccer match, our Cougars needed the entire first half to adjust. Though our Cougars had 15 shots on goal this half, the spacing was a problem to adapt to, so the score at the end of the frame was just 3-1.
In the second half, our Cougars were adjusted and ready to dominate; and did they ever! The combination of our fullbacks playing solid defense, the midfield totally controlling the area, and our forwards' ability to do a better job spreading out, making precise passes, and concentrating on accurate shots, our Cougars tallied up five more goals in the 8-1 rout.
Junior Steven Heitzman got his first "hat trick" of the season, scoring three goals. Fellow forwards, Tony Reed and Florian Mayrhofer both added one goal a piece. Midfielder Joey Van Loan got in the mix, scoring his first goal of the year, and fullback veteran Kay Winter nailed the first two goals of her own.
"On such a small field, requiring less real estate to cover, we figured Kay and her amazing foot skills would be able to juke out a few of their defenders and score one," said coach Briggs. Well, she not only proved this to be true, looking like she was trying out for an "and 1" basketball team with all her tricks, but did it twice. Ms. Winter almost did it three times which would have been her first hat trick on the varsity level, but her potential third score came an inch from rolling in on the right side of the goal.
Anthony Isaacs and Trushant Pattni played very strong on defense aiding in our victory, but it was their effective communication that the coaches our proud of the most because it will continue to make us better.
Next week our Cougars play HLA on Tuesday and Brandon Hall on Thursday. Both our home games at East Roswell Park so we hope to see many of you come out to continue to support us. Your Cougars are improving each day so the playoff push is coming.
Special thanks goes out to two parents of two of our players, Mr. Fred Weinberg and Mrs. Kim Gammage, as they traveled to Stone Mountain to cheer us on. Also to Mr. Owen Flynn who planned and prepared to, but spent three hours on the road unable to make the game and to alumni Jordan Sims who followed the TCS bus down to support his TCS Cougars.

9/11 vs. Mill Springs Academy
TCS Varsity Cougar Soccer loses a close one, 2-1, to Mill Springs Academy
In our first of two meetings yesterday afternoon, our Cougars and the Mustangs of Mill Springs battled back and forth in the first half figuring out the strengths and weaknesses of each other. Cougar Forward Omari Anderson, Stopper Jake Utley, and Goalie Scott Hendrickson played some great futbol in the first half, keeping the game scoreless.
In the second half, our midfield (Co-captain and senior Patrick Flynn) and fullback Tru Pattni came out very aggressive winning many possessions allowing for our forwards to get multiple scoring chances. Despite the offensive push from our Cougars, MSA did well enough defending to only allow one goal, giving our Cougars a 1-0 advantage with 30 minutes to play. The Cougar goal was scored by Tony Reed assisted by fellow teammate Steven Heitzman.
The game stayed 1-0 until roughly the 20th minute, when the Mustangs were able to strike in a goal from the left side of the box, tying it back up 1-1. For the next ten minutes, both our Cougars and MSA had good shot attempts, but to no avail. With just eight minutes to play, MSA finally broke through our defense and the tie, with another goal that ultimately sealed the game with the 2-1 final.
One rule of the game that our Cougars struggled with all game was the off sides call. Our Cougars' chances for shots on goal would have doubled if not for our 10 offside penalties. "The combination of the offside rule and lack of quality communication are two phases of the game we will continue to work on in practice," says Coach Briggs.
Game Notes:
Co-captain and senior Florian Mayrhofer played another silent, but effective game as he did very well controlling and directing our offensive attack. Senior fullback Kay Winter played very strong defensively until late in the second half leaving with an ankle injury.
Thank you fans, staff, and family for coming to support us; we are improving each game so more victories will come soon. It will start tomorrow as we face Gables Academy in Stone Mountain at 4PM.

9/6 vs. CEA
In yesterdays varsity soccer match our Cougars defeated Colts 9-1
1st Half:
CEA started the scoring with some fancy footwork from one of their forwards who than ripped a shot for CEA's lone goal of the day. After allowing that goal our Cougars regrouped quickly and began the onslaught. Co-Captain Florian Mayrhofer scored our first goal off a nice assist from fellow teammate Tony Reed. Mr. Reed than scored the next three goals, not only completing a "hat trick", but finishing with 4 goals and 2 assists. Co-Captain Patrick Flynn also got in the mix, scoring his first goal as a TCS Cougar.
Meredith, Erik, and I were pleased with the last 25 minutes of the first frame, because our Cougars really worked well together. A few things we did in our first two losses that we were able to improve on this game were our lack of communication, not spreading out the field, and trusting each other. It was really fun watching this teamwork from the sideline and our Cougars vowed to continue to prepare and play this way the rest of the season.
2nd Half:
In this frame, our mid-field and forwards totally dominated the ball. I had to yell out to our keeper, Scott Hendrickson, every now and than just to keep him alert.
Make sure to also congratulate senior Nick Shaver for scoring his first goal as a TCS Cougar off a long and accurate pass from midfielder Trushant Pattni. Sophomore Omari Anderson played his first soccer game ever and in doing so with his hustle and determination, he too got in the scoring mix scoring his first goal ever.
Other Notables:
Paul Johnson, Logan Gammage, Leah Purdy, Lauren Zabroske, and Anthony Isaacs all played great team ball and gave the intensity we need each game.
We would like to thank the parents, fans, staff, and alumni (Kyle Mrozik, Jordan Sims, and Harry Cochran) for coming out to support us.

9/4 vs.Howard
In yesterday?s home opener, your Cougar soccer team took on the Hawks of the Howard School. The outcome was a 3-1 loss.
Down 1-0 in the first half, your Cougars battled back to tie it in the second frame with 30 minutes to play. With another breakdown in Cougar communication, our defense allowed for a simple score, forcing us to play catch up the last 15 minutes of play. With solid wins in the midfield and good passes from our forwards, our Cougars had many high percentage shot attempts, but only to no avail, keeping the score at a 2-1 Howard advantage. The final meaningless goal of the game came with just two seconds remaining to end in the 3-1 final.
Game Notes:
Our lone goal was unassisted by Steven Heitzman.
Patrick Flynn and Joey Van Loan played solid in the midfield, especially in the second half, giving our forwards many shot attempts, and it kept the pressure off our defense.
Jonathan Hartman came in with limited minutes and made a great pass that led to our goal.
Thank you family, friends, and fans for coming out and supporting our Cougars. Come out to watch them play on Thursday to take on rival CEA.

8/31 @ Hidden Lake Academy
Good Morning,
Just before our relaxing Labor Day weekend, your Varsity Cougar Soccer team traveled up to Dahlonega, GA to battle Hidden Lake Academy in our first conference game of the 2007 season. Much growth and development has transpired in just one year taking an 18-1 loss in 2006, to a 4-1 loss in 2007. Matter of fact, we were tied 1-1 at halftime.
To the Field: After waking up our ?jet-legged? Cougars with a HLA scoring strike in the first minute of action, our Cougars responded with intense defense and sound offensive attacks. With just 3 minutes left in the half, Tony Reed was fouled in the box attempting a shot, therefore receiving a PK. With great focus and precision, Tony nailed the shot to tie the game at one a piece going into half-time.
In the second half our Cougars allowed another quick score but again settled down and won many balls at midfield and played solid defense. In the 22nd minute HLA scored again making the game further out of reach at 3-1. With just 7 minutes left, another foul in the box allowed our Cougars a chance to make it a one point game. However the HLA keeper made a good save on Captain Florian Mayrhofer?s strike, stunning our team. He then booted the ball down the sideline where his teammates settled it and quickly made two passes and kicked a hard ball at the back of our goal for the final 4-1 score.
Game notables:
Sophomore sensation, our keeper, Scott Hendrickson, played great in goal again, saving 16 HLA shots, giving him 30 saves in just two games this young season.
Anthony Isaacs played very strong at fullback, allowing no HLA penetration on his side of the field. Joey Van Loan played very solid at midfield, winning ball after ball, giving our forwards the scoring opportunities we had.
Meredith, Erik, and I are proud of the efforts but are determined to not be satisfied with the close loss against HLA. We believe our 2007 Cougars are very capable of not only competing against all our AAC foes but have an opportunity to make history at TCS by bringing home the 2007 AAC Cup.
Thank you family and friends for coming to support us.

8/29 @ Kings Ridge Christian
Last night your varsity Cougar soccer team tied 1-1 in an exhibition match at Kings Ridge Christian School. In preparation for our first conference game at Hidden Lake Academy this Friday, our Cougars were able to put to use all of what they have been training for in the first two weeks of practice.
Let?s go to the field:
For the first thirty minutes of the match, our Cougars were given many opportunities to work on the defensive side of the game, as Kings Ridge controlled the midfield and stayed on the offensive attack. Cougar fullbacks Kay Winter, Paul Johnson, and Anthony Isaacs did a fantastic job working together to protect our goal. Cougar goalie Scott Hendrickson made save after save, keeping the game scoreless throughout the first half. It was not until the 37th minute, where our Cougars were able to control the midfield, get the ball to our forwards, and on a great pass from newcomer Steven Heitzman, Cougar captain and heart and soul of the team, Florian Mayrhofer made a great strike to take a 1-0 lead at halftime. Note: It was the third year in a row Florian has scored our first goal of the season.
In the second half, our Cougars did a much better job winning balls in the midfield, thanks to seniors Jordan Taylor and Lauren Zabroske, as we were able to even out the shot attempts for both teams. However, Kings Ridge did a fine job keeping the ball out of their goal and the game stayed close. With the assistance of mother nature (the game was delayed twice due to lightening in the second half), a down pour with just five minutes to play began to make it very difficult to make solid contact while booting the ball. And on what seemed to be a routine defensive stop for our Cougars, Kings Ridge kicked a fairly slow shot attempt at our goal and the slippery ball snuck through two of our fullbacks and with side-spin it found its way into the far left side of the goal. With just three minutes left, our Cougars did make a valiant effort offensively to regain the lead getting two decent shot attempts but to no avail; hence the 1-1 final.
A few notables:
Captain Patrick Flynn picked up where he left off last season, winning just about every ball in his area. Joey Van Loan played very strong, but more importantly, he showed great leadership encouraging all his teammates and even volunteered to substitute out of the game to give more playing time to others. Make sure you guys congratulate Britt Hall, he made the most of limited playing minutes as he saved a potential game tying goal just before our second lightening delay with 10 minutes left in the second half.We welcome back a junior, Cougar forward Tony Reed. Many of you may remember him from two years ago starting as a freshman. He did a fine job in his first game back working together with his teammates, leading our offensive attack.
Meredith, Erik, and I want to thank our fans, parents, and alumni Jordan Sims who came out in the storm to cheer our Cougars on. We are going to have an exciting and fun 2007 season.
