Varsity Track Spring 2006 Schedule:

Tournament Updates:

Yesterday, in simultaneously concluding the Georgia Independent School Association’s 2006 Region AA Championship Meeting of Track and Field Athletes at The Heritage School, (following a rain delay from Saturday) and the Atlanta Athletic Association’s Championship at Quicksilver, seven long-standing school records fell, despite the dangerously hot conditions, in the divided Cougar varsity men and women’s bid to perform at their optimum and continue a winning tradition. Both varsity teams were successful in their attempts to win the conference and the spoils were presented to Joe this morning. Subsequently, the women placed second in the larger, GISA region, and the men fell just short of their mark and earned a close third in that arena. While many outstanding performances were witnessed by spectators at both meetings, the teams’ camaraderie and esprit de corps won the day. The qualifying athletes now turn their attention to the Georgia Independent Association’s State Track and Field Championship held over two days at the venerated Hugh Mills Stadium in Albany, Georgia, from April 28 until April 29, 2006, where they will have the esteemed privilege of running, jumping and throwing on the 1996 mondo-surfaced Olympic Track which saw the likes of Michael Johnson run faster than any human on record in winning Gold in the 200 meter dash in an unfathomable 19.32 seconds. Please encourage and congratulate ALL your young ambassadors in athletics as they represent us in this larger arena of competition. They are:

Jeanne Marshall, Ashley Held, Eboney Turnipseed, Jena Infante, Cally Volmer, Stephanie Dean, Sarah Swetmon, Brittany Goldman, Ben Lewis, Josh Farris, Sam Kacergis, Ian Sargent, Mike Miller, Kyle Forehand, Brad Mote, Josh Hawley, Doug Barwick, David Mettleman, Travis Reed, Kyle Washington, Jake Utley, Taylor Askins.

The mighty Cougars did a great job during a cold day at Epstein with several local private schools involved. Some highlights included: A new girls record in the 4x100 relay, smashing the old record by 7 sec. Congrats to Jordan Lomax, Lindsey Kandel, Irina Rundlett, and Stephanie Swetmon! Emily Moore came close to a new record in the 60 meter hurdles, as did Britt Hall in the 100 meters and 200 meter runs. Ross Sigmond bettered his school record again in the 60 meter hurdles. And Jake Utley had his personal best in the discus after winning the shot put event.
