October 17 vs. The Epstein School

On Wednesday, your Middle School Lady Cougars Volleyball team travelled to The Epstein School in Atlanta.  Talk about a determined group of ladies! In game 1, the team took a commanding lead with great defense and stellar serving to dominate the game as Abby Meyer served 5 straight to end the game and capture an impressive 25-15 victory.

In the second game Epstein jumped to an early 6-0 lead, but the girls remained focused and did not lose their composure as Stephanie Swetmom served 6 straight to put the team back in the game, and then Rebecca Custer achieved a great goal with her first 2 serving points.  This elevated the team?s level of play as they went on to win the game 25-20.  This young team is now on a ? 3 game winning streak? and they also picked up their 8th win of the year and moved into 3rd place in their conference.  This mostly rookie team surprises me every day with their leadership and positive role modeling and trust that they have come to expect from each other.  I am honored to coach such a fine group of athletes.

Please congratulate the following players on a job well done:

Abby Meyer, Sara Jeffs, Jillian Wright, Kelsey Biernath, Stephanie Swetmom, Lauren Goff, Elizabeth Waldrop, Anna Cuviello, Rebecca Custer, Roxanna Javid, Molly Ferguson and Team Manager, Evan Robertson.

Sept. 18 vs. Epstein

On Tuesday, your Middle School Lady Cougars Volleyball team travelled  to The Epstein School in Atlanta.  In game 1, the whole team worked together defensively to take an early lead.  Epstein crept back into the game and took a commanding lead before Roxanna Javid, Elizabeth Waldrop, Abby Meyer and Molly Ferguson (playing in her first game) took control of their serves and powered the team to a come from behind victory, with the game ending 25-21 in favor of the Cottage School to pick up their 4th win of the year!

In the second game, the lead once again changed back and forth, but with some outstanding superb defensive play making, led by team captain Kelsey Biernath and phenomenal rookies, Jillian Wright, Anna Cuviello, Lauren Goff and Rebecca Custer, the girls elevated their level of play and went on to win their 5th game of the year by a score of 20-25. This mostly rookie team is enjoying a banner year so far and this shows the amount of leadership and positive role modeling and trust our veterans have in our young rookie players.  I am honored to coach such a fine group of athletes.

Please congratulate the following players on a job well done:

Abby Meyer, Jillian Wright, Kelsey Biernath, Lauren Goff, Elizabeth Waldrop, Anna Cuviello, Rebecca Custer, Roxanna Javid, Molly Ferguson and Team Manager, Evan Robertson.

Sept. 11 vs. Howard

On Tuesday, your Middle School Lady Cougars Volleyball team traveled to The Howard School.  In game 1 the girls played great defensively and took a demanding 16-8 lead before settling for a tough loss to end the first game 25-21 for Howard.

The girls trailed early in the second game by a score of 15-6. This made them dig deep down and show how much heart they have by slowly chipping away at the lead. Behind the great serving of Elizabeth Waldrop, Sarah Jeffs, Roxanna Javid, Stephanie Swetmon and Kelsey Biernath, they took a commanding lead and held off Howard to complete the comeback and win by a score of 25-20.

In the tie breaking-game the girls fell behind 4-0 before refocusing. With team captain Kelsey Biernath on the court with 5 rookies, they worked together and took a commanding lead to end up with their first series win of the year with, a convincing 15-10 victory.

Win or lose, I am always very proud of the amount of dedication and commitment each player gives to themselves and to their team mates.  Please congratulate them on a job well done.

Sept. 4 vs. Davis Academy

Tuesday Sept, 4, the Lady Cougar Middle School Volleyball team traveled to Davis Academy where they competed in a triple match play.  With only 2 returning players from last year, this team had to begin the process of respecting and trusting each other?s judgments on the court.  This process paid off quickly as our girls settled in and gave the top team in the league a run for their money with a 25-15 loss.  They went on to lose another close one and earn some well deserved respect with another 25-15 loss

In game # 2 our girls played against a very talented Atlanta Girls School team. They started out a little nervous but they settled in and did a tremendous job taking a quick lead of 12-7 before settling for a 25-15 loss.  The team gave it their best in the second match against The Atlanta Girls School, but they came short of a victory, while earning some respect for the way they handled themselves as a team.  Please congratulate them on a job well done.
