Welcome to the Cottage School Middle School where there is seldom a boring day! Our students are your normal every day middle school kids who have mild to moderate learning difficulties. Middle school tends to be a time of change. Children are changing into young adults. Their brains and bodies are undergoing massive changes, at a great rate, with hormones often a driving force. Add to that learning difficulties, and you can understand why few of our days are boring. But it is precisely that resulting energy that makes our middle school such a positive place to learn! Since many of our students have issues with ADD or ADHD, it takes them an immense amount of energy, both physical and mental, to concentrate on their school work. We follow the Fulton County Curriculum, and do demand quite a bit of our students during the academic day. Our small class size allows us to use each minute of the class period to its maximum effectiveness, and by the time lunch rolls around, our kids are physically as well as mentally drained. |
| After lunch, our classes are more experiential and tend to be project oriented. One of our classes produced these two ponds. They researched, designed, and then constructed both of them. They then decided to connect the ponds via a cascading waterfall. The process of both the design and financing of the project proved to be an education in itself. |

Our students are always engaged in developing new project-based learning experiences that combine academic and creative functions. Keep in touch to learn more about how our students have applied their skills! |

As our students travel the often rocky road of young adolescence, their social world becomes the center of the universe, often deeply impacting their academic performance. As a result, social skills classes and lunches keep our counselor quite busy. Between finding ways to navigate through social conflict and practicing concrete social skills, our students are learning new, and sometimes more socially appropriate strategies to deal with the issues involved in their constantly shifting world. The self esteem that emerges as they become empowered to effectively and positively deal with social issues is heartwarming to see. It also makes the student more available for education and even further growth, and we start seeing improvement across the board.
We welcome you to come and see our middle school in action. Be prepared to see busy, involved students at their most important job of their young years: learning. Not only book learning, but learning about who they are, what they do best, and what they need to learn to do better. Above all, you will see happy kids, learning what they can do to be successful, contributing members of our middle school community. Make an appointment with our administrative assistant, or come to one of our Open Houses the first Thursday of every month. Wed love to meet you! |
