After 31 years of serving students with learning differences in grades 6th – 12th, The Cottage School is now offering a curriculum reaching 4th and 5th grade students. The program is designed for those students needing an early bridge to move forward after diagnosis determines they need a different learning environment.
The Cottage School uses strategies such as Kagan Cooperative Learning techniques incorporated into the existing success model of small classroom sizes, Brain Gym activities and experiential learning from STEAM educational examples. All students learn strategies to reinforce critical executive functioning skills. These skills are built into the academic curriculum and offer the goal of helping every student effectively develop and utilize important life skills.
The Cottage School follows Fulton County Curriculum, employs small class sizes for optimal learning, and balances academics with afternoon experiential classes in which students can expend their energy while developing their creative side. Project-based learning experiences combine academics, communication skills and creative expression, instilling a sense of teamwork and accomplishment. Social skills classes, sports, clubs and field trips support students in developing appropriate means of communication and interaction. As a result, self-esteem improves.
