TCS Cougar Cross Country Boys Earn Third in AA State
Saturday, the boys’ varsity cross country team competed at Monsignor Donovan Catholic High School in the GISA AA and AAA State Championship and placed third. The team goal from the beginning of the season was to place among the top three teams at state, and despite running into a few obstacles along the way, including the most malicious course ever designed in the history of the event (Big Red-twice); our young men accomplished their mission.
The harriers were led by standout sophomore, Larry Orsini, who placed fifth overall in 18:48, (the top ten athletes receive All-State Georgia Athlete Honors and awards). Senior Star, Turner Bynum, placed seventeenth in 22:01, while junior up-and-comer, Brett Boyles chased him through the chute in eighteenth at 22:11. Sophomore Shane Hendrickson struggled through a severe cold to kick-out into the top twenty five with a respectable 22:42. Rising Phenom, Will Conroy, (eighth grader) sprinted across the line just behind Shane in twenty sixth position at 22:45. The amazing Alex Hoeve strode strongly across the finish line for twenty eighth place in 22:58. Frosh sensation, Nick Smith earned runner of the week honors by blasting through the finish at 24:12 for a fortieth overall place. Thank you parents, students, staff and fans for your continued support of these diligent young student-athletes as they continue to pursue excellence. Bravo Zulu Cougars.
